Launch of New Election Judgments Tool
In the unique context of elections, where power, governance and stability may be at stake, judges are coming under increasing public scrutiny and political pressure when deciding election cases. IFES recently launched ElectionJudgments.org – a first-of-its-kind, global, curated collection of election judgments from around the world. IFES developed this new tool through the Consortium for Elections and Political Process Strengthening with support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Stayed tuned for upcoming videos about how to use the tool and of the judicial dialogue and launch event.

IFES Holds Its First-Ever Voter Education Film Festival
IFES held a film festival to share best practices for voter education videos, gather examples from around the world and create a repository for staff to use and refer back to. The judges received nearly 100 submissions and selected seven winners from Georgia, Guatemala, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Tunisia and Ukraine.

Risk-Limiting Audits: A Guide for Global Use
The risk-limiting audit is a type of post-election tabulation audit that relies on statistical evidence to confirm that the election outcome is correct. A new guide from IFES considers how these audits could have global application and utility – particularly to build trust in election results.

At least 12.4 million Pakistani women lack a National Identity Card, which prevents them from being able to vote, access government aid and more. IFES and local partner Pak Women are implementing a leadership program that equips women with the skills needed to promote women’s voter registration and engages men to advance a more inclusive democratic process.

Strengthening Political Participation in Europe Through Disability Inclusion Policies
IFES recently surveyed election management bodies in 13 Eastern Partnership and Western Balkans countries and found that none have a standalone disability inclusion policy. To address this critical gap, IFES is developing a handbook on how to draft such a policy to strengthen the participation of persons with disabilities in elections and political processes.

An independent team of IFES experts conducted an in-person technical observation and assessment of the Turks and Caicos Islands' February 19 general elections. IFES Supports Strategic and Crisis Communication Training in The Gambia
Last summer, The Gambia’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) identified strategic communications as a priority for their capacity building as an outcome of IFES' Executive Curriculum in Electoral Leadership (iEXCEL) training. IFES subsequently facilitated a training that covered developing a strategic communications plan, utilizing social media for communications, developing strategies to counter disinformation, building crisis management communication skills and crafting media statements.

Global: Chequeado cited IFES’ ElectionGuide data. La Fondation littéraire Fleur de Lys reported that the Library of the National Assembly of Quebec acquired IFES’ briefing paper on Preserving Independent and Accountable Institutions. AD interviewed IFES’ Staffan Darnolf and Fernanda Buril about elections during a pandemic. Team Security featured IFES Board Member Camille Stewart in an article about the influence of Black+ security and privacy experts at Google.

Armenia: The European Platform for Democratic Elections reported on a new law that introduces stricter regulation of political party financing and citing IFES’ role in bringing the law to fruition.

Bangladesh: A Daily Star op-ed cited findings from a 2000 IFES survey.

Bosnia and Herzegovina: A Transitions Online article on disinformation during election cycles cited findings from an IFES survey. Zašto promoted a panel on Voting During the Pandemic: The Case of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which featured IFES’ Irena Hadžiabdić and Lisa Reppell.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Agence Congolaise De Presse and Congo Politis reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission and IFES are collaborating on a logistics workshop.

Dominican Republic: El Nuevo Diario, Noticias Sin and other outlets reported that Central Electoral Board and IFES are collaborating on a strategic plan.

El Salvador: ElSalvador quoted remarks from a Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) magistrate, who cited projections from an IFES report. El Mundo cited TSE meetings with IFES about transparency and results transmission on February 16 and quoted remarks from the TSE president, who cited IFES’ support, on February 18. La Prensa Gráfica also quoted a TSE magistrate who noted IFES’ support. Archyde reported on the TSE’s cybersecurity efforts and noted IFES’ support. Diario Co Latino reported on February 28 and March 1 that IFES was present at a reset of a TSE database.

Guatemala: El Metropolitano reported on an IFES meeting with the Supreme Electoral Tribunal.

Guinea: RTG reported on a workshop where IFES and its local partners presented findings and citizens' proposals for inclusive dialogue.

Haiti: A Le Floridien article about Haitian women in politics cited IFES’ definition of violence against women in elections.

Honduras: A La Tribuna op-ed calling on the National Electoral Council to develop health protocols ahead of primary elections in March cited IFES’ COVID-19 recommendations. Canal 6 Honduras published photos of supplies for a training department and noted IFES’ support.

Laos: Voice of America Lao cited IFES’ ElectionGuide data.

Mexico: A Meta Política op-ed calling for Mexico’s June 6 to be held as scheduled cited IFES’ COVID-19 recommendations.

Nigeria: A Sahara Reporters op-ed on why Trump’s actions following the 2020 elections should compel Nigeria to explore a bipartisan election management body cited an IFES survey. Today, The Sun and other outlets reported on an upcoming capacity-building workshop and noted IFES’ support. The Independent, Eagle and other outlets reported on remarks made at the workshop. Leadership reported on a workshop organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission and IFES.

Philippines: A Manila Times op-ed on voter databases and the 2022 elections cited a 2011 book by IFES.

Romania: TurdaNews reported findings from a report on political party spending and noted IFES’ support.

Tanzania: An African Arguments op-ed about Tanzania’s handling of COVID-19 and elections cited several of IFES’ COVID-19 resources

Tunisia: Agence Tunis Afrique Press and Tekiano reported on the launch of IFES’ Museum of Democracy. Agence Tunis Afrique Press later reported on IFES’ Democratic Awakening Toolkit.

Turks and Caicos Islands: Prensa Latina noted IFES’ observation of the general elections.

Ukraine: The Atlantic Council published an article by IFES’ Alisa Shushkovska and Harald Hartvig Jepsen on the adoption of a new referendum law. The National Security and Defense Council posted about a coordination meeting and noted that IFES’ Mykhailo Gorkusha participated.

Zimbabwe: Bulawayo24 and the Zimbabwe Chronicle published an op-ed on women’s political participation that cited findings from a 2018 IFES assessment. The Standard published an article on violence against women in politics that also cited findings from the same IFES assessment.
