Elections in Bulgaria: 2021 Repeat Parliamentary Elections
|
Following parliamentary elections on April 4, Bulgaria’s political parties were unable to form a majority government, and President Rumen Radev called for new elections. On Sunday, July 11, Bulgarian voters will go back to the polls for repeat elections. Extensive anti-government protests took place in 2020, organized in response to a series of government scandals that revealed widespread corruption and the ruling party’s incompetent response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these setbacks and partly due to its use of state resources, the ruling party still won 26 percent of votes in the April elections. |
