UNPO's March Newsletter is here!
In March 2016, UNPO returned to Rwanda with the aims of consolidating old and establishing new partnerships in the country and to visit a number of Batwa communities we’ve worked with over the past few years. Following this visit, UNPO wishes to renew its commitment to advocate for the Batwa community, internationally and in Rwanda, as well as to continue offering opportunities for these communities to leave the vicious circle of extreme poverty, discrimination and exclusion. During the month of March UNPO also organised two side-events to the Human Rights Council Session in Geneva, on human rights in Balochistan and on slavery in Mauritania, respectively. These events sought to inform the audience on the situation in the two regions and to provide a platform for discussion with representatives of the Balochi and Haratin communities. In the context of the fight against slavery in Mauritania, UNPO also supported its member IRA-Mauritanie in a demonstration in front of the European institutions in Brussels. UNPO also organised a conference at the European Parliament on freedom of association in Greece, focusing, in particular, on the situation of the Turkish and Macedonian minorities. Finally, UNPO is proud to announce that – thanks to the support of our followers – we have now reached 7000 likes on our Facebook page!
