On September 30, a referendum will ask Macedonian citizens if they are in favor of European Union and North Atlantic Treaty Organization membership by accepting an agreement between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Greece. The agreement anticipates constitutional amendments that would change the name of the country to “the Republic of North Macedonia” and remains subject to significant discussion and numerous points of controversy.
