Learn more about the state of the world. Our 23rd annual World Report summarizes human rights conditions in more than 90 countries and territories worldwide in 2012, reflecting extensive investigative work by Human Rights Watch during the year, often in close partnership with local human rights activists.

The report's introductory essay by Executive Director Kenneth Roth (see below) addresses the sobering challenge of creating rights-respecting democracies after the Arab Spring. Chapters are broken out by country, providing information, for example, on civilian deaths in Afghanistan, child soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the US government's flawed counterterrorism policy.
